Micro EV Transit in Solana Beach? Yes Please!
At last night’s BikeWalkSolana meeting, a representative from Oceanside discussed the free EV shuttle pilot program called gO'side that the city has been providing. Oceanside's City Council allocated a portion of their American Rescue Plan Act funds for an electric vehicle shuttle pilot program to serve the downtown Oceanside area from June 2022 to November 2022.
The shuttle runs from 10am to 10pm, 7 days a week in downtown Oceanside, and has proven to be really popular with both the locals and tourists. Riders can either request a ride or hail the shuttle as it goes by using an app. Bigger kids (and smaller dogs) are welcome too!
This is similar to the on-demand FRED EV service which is offered in downtown San Diego weekdays 7am-9pm and weekends 8am-10pm. FRED San Diego even has its own a Twitter account.
How cool would it be to offer a service like this in Solana Beach? We're less than 4 square miles, so it seems perfect to pilot a service like this for the entire city.
